Khiera Peña, Trustee
Khiera Peña is an educator and labor relations activist. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Georgia and earned a graduate degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from CUNY Lehman College. Ms. Peña taught English as a New Language and Bilingual (Spanish) Education at P.S. 114 in the Bronx from 2005-2014. During her tenure at P.S. 114, Ms. Peña was the school’s UFT Chapter Leader, Girl Scout troop leader and a member of several school committees. She participated in numerous professional learning opportunities and earned the City Gardens Club Scholarship for Science Education in both 2013 and 2014. Ms. Peña has been a member of the UFT’s Executive Board since 2013 and joined the UFT as a full-time employee in September 2014. She has been awarded the UFT’s Marsh-Raimo Award for political action and Smallheiser Award for union service and improving working conditions. Ms. Peña currently works as a Special Representative in the UFT’s Grievance and Arbitration Department. Her responsibilities include coordinating class size arbitrations, representing the Union in arbitration proceedings and negotiating contracts.
