Dear Parents/Guardians and Families:
On Tuesday, October 31st, we will be participating in Unity Day. On this day we ask that our students wear an orange accessory as a way to show their support, hope, and unity in standing together to show that we are united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
In addition to Unity Day, our students will also take part in Mix It Up Lunch Day. This is an international campaign that encourages students to identify, question and cross social boundaries. So we ask students to move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch. Students will have access to talking points and guiding questions. These talking points will facilitate in creating a well-rounded conversation. It’s a simple act with profound implications that we encourage educators to include in year-round efforts to promote healthy, welcoming school environments. Studies have shown that interactions across group lines can help reduce prejudice. When students interact with those who are different from them, biases and misperceptions can fall away.
Help us get our students excited to join these two incredible movements as we stand together for kindness and inclusion.
