"Full circle moment" "Círculo completo" It’s been a dream – 23 years in the making. When Amber Charter School opened an Inwood campus last fall, it marked the end of a two-decade odyssey to bring the school to the northernmost tip of Manhattan. The charter network was founded in 2000 by the Community Association of Progressive Dominicans (or La Asociación Comunal de Dominicanos Progresistas in Spanish), becoming the first Latino-led charter school in New York State.

Verónica Almedina la directora de la Amber Charter School, en el vecindario de Kingsbridge, en el condado de El Bronx, describe cómo, de la noche a la mañana, tuvo que hacer la transición entre impartir clases en las aulas -que es lo tradicional- y el sistema de enseñanza en línea. La escuela tiene dos localizaciones, la otra está en East Harlem, Manhattan.

Amber Adds On
Amber Charter School has opened a new location in Kingsbridge. Located at 3120 Corlear Avenue, the school is serving 250 children grades K through 2. Amber Kingsbridge, which began classes in September, will eventually go up to fifth grade, adding one grade per year. Principal Verónica Almedina said the school district is known for overcrowded public schools and few quality options for families. “We hope to alleviate some of that,” she said. “We want to give people another option.” Executive Director Vasthi Acosta said the curriculum at Amber is heavily focused on the arts, including visual arts and music.
