Specials

Amber Charter Schools offer a variety of specials programs tailored to each campus, ensuring students have access to diverse learning experiences. While offerings may vary by location, Spanish is consistently provided to all students throughout their K-8 journey.

Art

Available at East Harlem, Kingsbridge Elementary and Kingsbridge Middle School, the art curriculum aligns with NY State visual arts standards, teaching students the principles of art and exploring master artists and their techniques.

Music

At Kingsbridge Elementary, the Music in the Brain curriculum teaches K-4 students to read music, play instruments, and sing. East Harlem partners with the 92nd Street Y for a six-week music series, where 1st, 3rd, and 6th graders receive engaging instruction in percussion and other instruments, culminating in live performances at the renowned Kaufmann Concert Hall.

Physical Eduation

Amber students enjoy at least 45 minutes of physical education each week at every campus. They develop skills and learn the rules for sports like basketball, soccer, and other physical activities, while also understanding the health benefits of staying active.

Spanish

Amber Charter Schools use the comprehensive Sonrisas Spanish curriculum to teach students in grades K-8 to read, write, and speak Spanish. In the 2023-2024 school year, the program expanded to include more project-based learning opportunities, enhancing engagement and language proficiency.

Technology

Across all Amber campuses, K-8 students seamlessly integrate technology into their daily learning through interactive classroom boards and one-to-one Chromebooks, enriching lessons with engaging digital experiences. At the East Harlem campus, 3rd-5th graders explore a dynamic technology curriculum, developing skills by creating presentations, websites, brochures, resumes, and blogs. At Kingsbridge Middle School, 5th-8th graders participate in STEAM classes, where they learn to use a 3D printer and explore engineering concepts, while also utilizing academic software to enhance their math and literacy skills.
