Enrichment and Clubs

At IW, the Art Club provides K-4 students with a vibrant creative outlet, allowing them to explore various art forms, express their imagination, and develop artistic skills in a fun and supportive environment.

At KBES, the Chess Club helps 3rd and 4th graders develop strategic thinking, enhance problem-solving skills, and sharpen their focus through engaging and competitive chess matches.

At Amber Charter School, every student participates in a community service project each year, helping them connect with the local community and understand its needs. In elementary 4th graders take the lead, guiding their classmates in planning and executing projects such as writing letters to soldiers, creating gift booklets for firefighters, and cleaning local parks. These hands-on initiatives are carried out on Amber Service Day, during April emphasizing the importance of time and energy over monetary donations while fostering personal connections with those they serve. Past projects include the following writing Letters to soldiers and sending care packages, gift booklets for fire fighters, blankets for local shelters, reading to preschoolers at local day cares centers, singing at senior centers, and planting flower beds, and cleaning local parks.

Amber Charter Schools provide enriching field trips that spark curiosity and enhance classroom learning. Students explore cultural, scientific, and artistic experiences across New York City and beyond. Highlights include visits to the Museum of Natural History, New York Botanical Gardens, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Carnegie Hall, and the NY Hall of Science. Younger students enjoy hands-on adventures like pumpkin patches, farms, live performances, and interactive children’s museums. These carefully selected trips inspire creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper connection to the world around them.

Dance Club: Inspiring creativity and rhythm, our Dance Club introduces kindergarteners at KBES and IW to the joy of movement, with additional classes for 1st and 2nd graders at KBES to build confidence and coordination.

Ballet Program: Kindergarteners experience the elegance of ballet through a four-week program in partnership with Bronxville Ballet Not For Sale. This enriching experience culminates in a delightful Ballet Showcase, where students perform for their families and celebrate their hard work on stage. (Inwood and KBES)

Amber Charter Schools provide a variety of leadership opportunities to inspire and empower students.

National Honor Society: Recognizes academic excellence among 4th-6th graders at the EH campus.

Student Council: Amber Charter Schools' provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills and contribute to school life. Key positions, including President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Student Affairs Representative, allow students to lead initiatives, manage events, and represent their peers. (EH)

Leadership Programs: Cultivate leadership skills for 3rd-4th graders at KBES and honor outstanding 5th-8th graders through LeadCO at KBMS.

Debate: Offered at KBMS during school, sharpening critical thinking and public speaking skills.

Through these programs, Amber Charter Schools encourage students to lead, collaborate, and actively contribute to their school community.

Music Concert Series: Students in 1st, 3rd, and 6th grades EH take part in a six-week music series in partnership with the 92nd Street Y. This program features engaging music instruction led by a 92nd Street Y Teaching Artist, where students explore percussion and other instruments. The experience culminates with two live performances at the renowned Kaufmann Concert Hall, enriching their appreciation and understanding of music.

Choir: Inspires 4th graders at KBES to explore their vocal talents, build confidence, and experience the joy of music through dynamic performances and collaborative singing.

Sail Academy: At KBMS, students dive into hands-on learning by building wooden boats, mastering remote-controlled boats, and sailing on the Hudson River, all while developing teamwork, confidence, and a love for adventure

Steamroller Program: This cutting-edge STEAM lab at KBMS empowers students to explore innovation through projects like Lego Robotics Competitions and 3D printing. Designed for curious and dedicated learners, the program nurtures creativity and problem-solving skills.

Volleyball: Available at EH and KBMS for Middle School students, our volleyball program emphasizes teamwork, athleticism, and sportsmanship, providing a fun and competitive environment.

Track/Running: Middle School students at EH can boost their fitness and endurance through this energizing track and running program, pushing their limits and achieving personal goals.

Cycling: In partnership with I Challenge Myself, our 7th graders at KBMS embark on a thrilling cycling program that promotes health, perseverance, and outdoor adventure.

Basketball and Soccer: Competitive and intramural sports for 6th-8th graders at KBMS, where students develop teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership on and off the court and field

Swim Program: Introduces 2nd graders across campuses to foundational swim skills during school hours. At Amber we believe that swimming is a basic life survival skill.  All Amber second graders participate in an 6-week swim program. Our students travel once a week to the swimming pool and get basic swimming instruction by trained life guards. This program runs in the spring. East Harlem partners with Dwight Athletic Center and Kingsbridge and Inwood partner with Riverdale Y.
